HUD 2024 Data Standards

What are HUD Data Standards?

HMIS data standards are guidelines set by the U.S. government to collect consistent information about homelessness. They help agencies gather and share data in a standardized way, enabling a better understanding and response to homelessness issues.

When Will the HMIS Data Standards Changes Happen?

New HMIS Data Standards will take effect from October 1, 2023, for collecting and reporting homelessness information. Users, vendors, and administrators should get ready to implement these changes for accurate and consistent data.

What is Changing?

The HMIS system is updating language and data elements to improve how homelessness information is collected and reported. There will be changes in terminology, options for gender and living situations, and additions to certain data elements. The goal is to have more inclusive and accurate data to better address homelessness issues. Please refer to the HUD Exchange website to explore the specific data standards changes.

  • If you have questions about the FY 2024 HMIS Data Standards, please submit your questions to the Ask A Question (AAQ) portal. In Step 2 of the question submission process, select “HMIS” in the “My question is related to” dropdown.

How Will I Be Informed of These Changes?
